I'm a little confused here.
So this video shows how a mode is comprised of 3 combinations of 6 notes (3 per string). The combinations of these 6 note scales to create the modes are given as scale formula i.e Ionian is comprised of 1-7-6 (Ionian, Locrian, Aeolian).
So my question is, am I supposed to memorise all of the scale formula? (1-7-6, 2-1-7, 3-2-1 etc) Because that seems like a lot more work and much harder to do than simply just memorizing the 7 modes as whole patterns.
Thanks :)
Good question. I’m guessing it was presented that way because it’s easier to visualise those smaller patterns of the larger scale and the modes making it easier to apply right away without having to memorise all the large full 7 scale patterns .
But I’d also be curious to know more on this .
I quite liked this lesson because it was presented in a way I’ve never seen before .
Something that this reminded me of was that a major scale is actually made up of something called tetra chords.
I hope I’m not adding confusion here, but this lesson reminded me of that concept a little in that a major scale or any scale is made up of 2 smaller tetra chords - the tetra chord is like a tiny 4 note scale .
Please enlighten both of us mortals on this Tyler
