The Japanese Scale will primarily work well over minor tonalities and minor chords so you can hear that minor sound. As you find your way around the scale with the minor pentatonic you’ll understand how you can start a phrase in the Japanese tonality and then move seamlessly into a more traditional minor pentatonic tonality.
